According to television shows, magazines, and other mass media, what brings us happiness are basically material things and beauty. Television shows often advertise products such as soda, sneakers, and cars. We are led to believe that, just like the characters, if we own those things, we will be happy and have an extraordinary life. Mass media, especially social media, convince us that beauty will bring us those same results. We see pictures of unrealistically beautiful people living unrealistically amazing lives. Thus, we connect their physical appearance to the happiness they seem to feel.
