In "Sense and Sensibility" there are two sisters Marianne and Elinor that are the complete opposite when it comes to their mindset. Throughout the novel you can see Marianne as "sensibility" as she is more sensitive and utilizes empathy to control her decisions. Marianne is known as headstrong and does not use logic, and tackles situations headlong as said by her sister Elinor. On the contrary, Elinor is the older sister and is the "Sense" in "Sense and Sensibility". Elinor is the more responsible and logical sister, She utilizes logic to control her decisions rather than her emotions.

This can be seen in their love affairs, while the older sister shows restraint in showing her emotion to Edward Ferrars. Her sister had no regard for restraint whatsoever, and was vocal on her feeling for John Willoughby.
