What are the advantages and disadvantages of using RNA or protein as genetic material?

The most important idea is that the genetic material of any organism must be able to accurately replicate itself at least every generation (or for multicellular organisms at each cell division).

Base pairing (A-T or U and C-G)allows DNA and RNA (eg in polio virus, see Wikipedia page on RNA dependent RNA polymerase) to create a copy of themselves, when the appropriate enzymes are present. Proteins have no way of making a copy of themselves.

Stability is probably the main reason DNA is the most common genetic material. DNA has no enzymatic activity and was probably selected for to maintain the integrity of the genetic material (rather than having to perform a function for the cell/virus, during which it may be destroyed). The double helix structure also protects its integrity, and proofreading enzymes have also evolved which correct most of the mistakes made at DNA replication. RNA viruses don't have this mechanism- which could be said to be an advantage (as they can rapidly change and therefore avoid their hosts' immune systems), however in non-parasitic organisms most mutations in a gene would lead to a loss of an essential function and the extinction of that genome.

I don't think either of these reasons are relevant, but I think the main reasons retroviruses convert their RNA to DNA are so they can use the host cell's replication machinery (this was they do not need to encode as many genes), and secondly they need avoid the antiviral mechanisms of the cell, which would destroy any double stranded RNA molecules found (even if the virus was single stranded, dsRNA would have to be produced at replication).

In a high school laboratory, which of the following constitutes an experiment? I. learning to use a microscope by examining fixe
victus00 [196]

Answer:

The correct answer is - option III.

Explanation:

An experiment is scientific procedure to test a hypothesis and to demonstrate any scientific procedure to prove something. In high school laboratories there are experiments constitutes scientific methods that helps in demonstrate or prove or existence of something.

Extracting various pigments from the leaves of plants and identifying them by separating from it, is the best example of the high school laboratory experiment among all the options.

Thus, the correct answer is - option III.

Imagine that your finger is accidentally caught in a closing car door. Describe the path of stimulus and response that would hap
slamgirl [31]
Sensory neurons in finger will start a chain reaction that is passed through the neurons from the finger tip all the way through the brain. The brain is then capable of interpreting the reaction and will immediately send response back through motor neurons capable of immediately moving the finger. Depending or the severity, swelling and bleeding may occur around the affected area.

in redi's second experement, what was (a) the independant variable and what was (b) the dependant variable?
aleksley [76]

in redi's second experiment,  the independent variable  is  presence of the gauze, or lack of it, while the dependent variable is appearance of maggots .

<h3>What are independent variable and  independent variable?</h3>

independent variable can be described as the  variable that stands alone and  whereby the  other variables can not impact it when one is trying to measure. For  instance  someone's age  is  independent variable.

On the other hand ,dependent variable are variable that can not stand alone , hence in redi's second experiment,  the independent variable  is  presence of the gauze, or lack of it, while the dependent variable is appearance of maggots .

The sense of the location of body parts in relation to the ground and each other is called?
Harman [31]

The sense of the location of body parts in relation to the ground and each other is called Kinesthetic sense. Bastian (1888) developed the word "kinaesthesia," which refers to the capacity to perceive the position and movement of our limbs and trunk.

It's a fascinating sense since, unlike our other senses like vision and hearing, we're mostly unconscious of it in our daily lives. Kinesthesia is the knowledge of the position and movement of bodily parts through the use of sensory organs known as proprioceptors, which are found in joints and muscles. Kinesthetic sense is concerned with how we can determine the location of our limbs.
