1. The pandemic has negatively affected food demand. A United Nation forecast shows that by the end of 2020, about 132 million people would experience chronic hunger in the world. This is an addition to the 690 million people already hungry today.

2. Those whose livelihoods and food security are at risk are;

a. Vulnerable groups such as migrants, fishers, small-scale farmers, children who are dependent on school meals, sick individuals with special food needs.

b. Developing countries and underdeveloped countries. Small island developing countries are also at risk because they depend on the importation  of food.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations reports an increase in food demand across the world with the onset and persistence of the pandemic. As at 2019, 690 million people the world over were experiencing chronic hunger. The onset of the pandemic resulted in the addition of 132 million people to this number.

Vulnerable groups such as;

a. Small-scale farmers will experience a hike in the cost of food production and sales.

b. Fishers might not have access to the water bodies for catching fishes.

c. Migrants who do not knw their way around may experience difficulties in obtaining food.

d. Developing and under-developing countries already struggling with their economies might experience difficulties in providing citizens with food through importation.

e. The sick with special food requirements will also be affected.
