Upwelling helps to bring up nutrients from the lower parts of the ocean to the photosynthetic organisms at the upper levels. With lower levels of upwelling, these organisms will not be able to survive properly. The primary consumer would then suffer a loss of population do to a lack of food, which would result in the drop of subsequent levels of consumers for the same reason.

If the area of all regions of upwelling decreases then there will be a drastic reduction in the nutrien- rich upwell water that stimulate the growth and reproduction of primary producers, this will lead to reduction in the level of primary productivity and thus reduction in fishery production.
