For me, a very special part of my being Latina is the mucho platos de arroz, gandules y pernir—rice, beans and pork—that I have

eaten at countless family holidays and special events. My Latina identity also includes, because of my particularly adventurous taste buds, morcilla, pig intestines; patitas de cerdo con garbanzo, pigs' feet with beans; and Ia lengua y orejas de cuchifrito, pigs' tongue and ears. I bet the Mexican-Americans in this room are thinking that Puerto Ricans have unusual food tastes. Some of us, like me, do. How does the speaker's use of Spanish names for food most affect the tone and meaning of this excerpt? It shows her strong connection to her heritage. It demonstrates how unusual Puerto Rican food is. It exemplifies a frustration with the United States. It deliberately excludes non-Spanish speakers.

“Bite back your tongue,” scolded my mother when I cried loudly, yanking her hand toward the store that sold bags of salted plums
Aleks04 [339]

Answer:

Meimei vs. self

Explanation:

This conflict is an example of Meimei vs. self. Although it was her mom who advised her to hold back her tongue, it is ultimately Meimei's decision to listen to the advice and try it. Moreover, the conflict lies in the fact that Meimei has to decide between following her instinct and complain, or listening to her mom and being quiet. The conflict is all carried out inside of Meimei's mind.

What is the function of the noun phrase "the assembled children" in this sentence? the meteorologist told the assembled children
kaheart [24]

indirect object

An indirect object is the receiver of the direct object. The assembled children are the ones who are receiving the information the meteorologist is telling. The subject of the sentence is who or what the sentence is about. The meteorologist is the subject of this sentence. He is doing the action. A predicate nominative renames the subject. It follows a linking verb. There is no linking verb in the sentence so predicate nominative is not an option. An appositive is a noun phrase that renames or describes the noun next to it. For example Sarah, my sister, is late. My sister is an appositive; it renames Sarah as my sister.
