By 'author of the essay reading Shakespeare' do you mean us readers?
As, I'm currently doing right try and read classical novels like 'How to kill a mockingbird'. There's no need to rush if it's the first time reading, the more you read (or few of classicals) you will kind off get what the author is making the character speaking. Also understanding the aspect of the story. :)
I wish to partake in such immense scenery with unbiased vision.
To take in the strong aroma which has brought joy to many before me with such a ocean of flowers.
To hear the chirping of birds and the buzz of bees pollinating does me great joy.
I wish to hold this place; all its worth and beauty in such corrupted and dark hands, to feast on the many rewards this lavish land provides.

A thing so old disgusted him...", these words reflect the boy's feelings towards the passage of time , but these seem to be senseless when <em>he</em> gets <em>shocked </em>on coming across <em>his own</em> drawings. He drew them when he was five.
