g Farmer Violet wants to enclose one 990 square foot rectangular area of land using fencing. One side will use special fencing c

osting $12 per foot. The remaining three sides of fencing will be formed using standard fencing costing $10 per foot. Find the dimensions of the corral that would minimize the cost of the fencing required for this project, rounded (if necessary) to the nearest hundredth of a foot

Answer:

Sides of the rectangular area:

x =  30  f

y =  33  f

Step-by-step explanation:

Let´s call   x  and y the sides of the rectangular area

A = x*y  = 990          y  = 990/x

The function cost is:

C = Costs ( sides x)  + costs ( sides y )

Cost of sides x    =  12*x +  10x

Cost of sides y    =  10*y  +  10 *y   =  2*10*y  = 20*y

C = 12*x + 10*x + 20*y =  22*x  + 20*y

The function cost as function of x is:

C(x)  = 22*x + 20*(990/y)  =  22*x  +  19800/x

Tacking derivative on both sides of the equation:

C´(x)  = 22  + [ - 19800/x²]

C´(x) = 0       22  - 19800/x²  =  0

Solving for x

22*x²  - 19800  =  0

22x²  =  19800

x² =  19800/22 =  900

x₁,₂ = ± 30        We dismiss negative root ( we never have negative lenghts)

Then     x =  30 f

And  y  =  990 / 30      y  = 33

To see if x = 30 is a minimum for function C(x) we evaluate the second derivative.

C´´(x) = 2*x* 19800/x⁴

C´´ (x) = 39600/x³    so C´´ is always greater than 0 then C (x) has a minimum at x = 30

Sides of the rectangular area are:

x  =  30

y  =  33

Solve the system of equations.<br> y-10x=5<br> y=x^2+7x+5
vesna_86 [32]

Answer:

x = 0,3

Step-by-step explanation:

y-10x=5 move -10x to the other side to get y by itself

y=10x+5 then you would substitute this equation into the other equation where you see y

10x+5=x^2+7x+5 move everything to one side

0=x^2+7x+5-10x-5 combine like terms

0=x^2-3x factor

0 = x(x-3) set each equal to zero

x=0

x-3 = 0 add 3 to both sides

x = 3

the answer is x=0 and x=3

Bob drew a line he thought was close to many of the points and found the equation of the line. He used the points (165, 168) and
ioda

We will see that the linear equation is:

y = 1.1*x  -13.5

b) The predicted height is 164.7cm

<h3>How to get the linear equation?</h3>

A general linear equation is:

y = a*x + b

Where a is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

If we know that the line passes through (x₁, y₁) and (x₂, y₂), then we can write the slope as:

a = (y₂ - y₁)/(x₂ - x₁)

In this case, the line passes through (165, 168) and (174, 178), then the slope is:

a = (178 - 168)/(174 - 165) = 10/9 = 1.1

Then the line is:

y = 1.1*x + b

To get the value of b, we use one of the given points, for example if we use the first one (165, 168) we must have x = 165 and y = 168, replacing that we get:

168 = 1.1*165 + b

168 -  1.1*165  = b = -13.5

The equation is:

y = 1.1*x  -13.5

Now we want to find the height of a person with an arm span of 162cm, then we replace x by 162 to get:

y = 1.1*162 -13.5 = 164.7

The predicted height is 164.7cm

How do I factor 3X^3-19X^2-14X=0?
Novosadov [1.4K]

Just as you look at it, the only factor common to all three terms is 'x'.
So you can factor the 'x' out and make the equation . . .

           x (3x²-19x - 14)  =  0

Right there, that tells you that [ x = 0 ] is a solution of the original equation.

But you're not looking for solutions, you're looking for factors, so you continue.

What about that ugly trinomial:  [ 3x² - 19x - 14 ]  ?  Can that be factored ?

Not easily.  But if you stuff it into the quadratic equation, you'll find two solutions
to the equation
                                 3x² - 19x - 14 = 0

and you'll recall that  (x - a solution) is a factor of the left side.
So you can find the remaining two factors of the original trinomial.

3 3/5 + 1 1/6 answer as a fraction
Diano4ka-milaya [45]

Answer:

  • \boxed{\sf{4\dfrac{23}{30} }}

Step-by-step explanation:

It is necessary to add the whole numbers of fractions from left to right in order to solve this problem.

<h3>3 3/5+1 1/6</h3>

<u>First, you have to add the whole numbers.</u>

3+1=4

<u>After that, you can combine by a fraction.</u>

6*3=18

18/5+ 1 1/6

1+6=7

7/6

<u>Rewrite the problem down.</u>

18/5+7/6

<u>Solve.</u>

5*6=30

143/30

=23/30

\boxed{\sf{4\dfrac{23}{30} }}

  • <u>Therefore, the final answer is 4 23/30.</u>
