The coast of West Africa bordered the Atlantic ocean which is where most of the slave trade occurred. It was therefore accessible to the slave traders who would imply land on the coast and raid settlements or trade with people living by the coast.
This made getting people to enslave easy as opposed to having to go inland to find them.
