The benefits of using strikes to help workers achieve their goals is that strikes put real pressure on the management of the business. Because the workers simply stop working unless their demands are met, management has more incentive to do what the workers want.
The dangers of using strikes is that strikes by their own nature create conflicts between workers and managers, which can make it harder later on to reach a solution, and another danger is that the workers could end up being fired by management if the strike lasts for very long.
