The Battle of Midway, fought between June 3-6, 1942, broke the power and sensibly damaged the operational capacity of the Japanese Navy. All the four Japanese aircraft carriers were destroyed by American pilots. The carriers have been the most strategic warships in modern naval warfare since WWII.

The Japanese command attempted to gain naval and air superiority in the Pacific by delivering a blow to American air force and Navy in Midway.
