She feels this way because she doesnt believe she can be fully selfless. She wants to look in the mirror at her reflection and shes naturally curious about things. Which isnt the way of Abnegation. As the Choosing Ceremony approached she was confused, she didnt know whether to choose her self or her family. Tris didnt want to betray them. 1. Explain Mary Shelley’s use of a motif in Frankenstein and provide at least two examples of this motif from the text.

Motifs are recurring structures, contrasts, or literary devices that can help to develop and inform the text’s major themes.
Example 1: Passive Women Frankenstein is strikingly devoid of strong female characters. The novel is littered with passive women who suffer calmly and then expire: Caroline Beaufort is a self-sacrificing mother who dies taking care of her adopted daughter.

Example 2: Abortion
The motif of abortion recurs as both Victor and the monster express their sense of the monster’s hideousness. About first seeing his creation, Victor says: “When I thought of him, I gnashed my teeth, my eyes became inflamed, and I ardently wished to extinguish that life which I had so thoughtlessly made.” The monster feels a similar disgust for himself: “I, the miserable and the abandoned, am an abortion, to be spurned at, and kicked, and trampled on.”

2. What does Frankenstein suggest about duality in life? What examples from the text can you give that relate to this theme?

The Creature's duality is his ability to show love and to yearn for people who love him (as in his mountain retreat, where he fell in love with the family he helped), and his humanity. The flip side of that is his hatred for who he is and his desire to destroy his creator, Dr Victor Frankenstein when he wouldn't make another monster for his companionship.

What aspects of semantics did you enjoy most? Discuss it?
Ipatiy [6.2K]

Hi. This question requires a personal answer, as she wants to know what aspect of semantics you most enjoyed studying and understanding. In that case, I can't answer your question, but I can help you arrive at a correct answer.

First, it is important that you know what semantics are. Semantics is a science that studies how a communication vehicle should be interpreted and the meanings that this language provides. A communication vehicle can be a text, a song, a conversation between two people, among other things that allow a type of communication to be established. In this case, semantics studies words, textual structures, intonations, expressions and sentences within a context.

The aspects of semantics refer to everything that makes up the analyzed semantics, that is, the tone of voice of the speakers, the punctuation used in the text, the existence of figures of speech, the use of grammatical classes and even the size of the text and conversation. In this case, for you to present the aspect of the semantics that you liked the most, you should evaluate which of these aspects do you think is more important for you to analyze the meaning of a communication. You can use the paragraph below as a template for your answer.

The aspect of semantics that I like the most is the speaker's tone of voice, as it allows the listener to perceive the speaker's intention when communicating, which makes it easier for the meaning of the message to be understood. The tone of voice is an aspect that is lacking in text messages and can lead to incorrect interpretations of the meanings of the messages, since the tone of voice between speakers is omitted.

In a text, punctuation is my favorite semantic aspect, as it organizes the sentences, presents the intentions of the narrator or speaker, presents intonation and shows how the text should be read.
