The internal balance that exists before stress is called general adaptation syndrome?
12345 [234]

The correct answer is NO.

The Internal Balance that exists before stress is NOT called general adaptation syndrome.

The internal balance consists of all the systems of our body that constantly work together to maintain stability of our organism to provide our cells what they need to survive.

The General Adaptation Syndrome, in contrast, is a process of physiological changes our body goes through precisaly when under stress. It is a theory created by Hans Selye, medical doctor and researcher, who explains that this process takes place in three stages:

1. Alarm reaction Stage.- A physiological response where heart rate increases, the adrenal gland releases cortisol, and the body receives a boost of adrenaline. It all helps us decide whether to fight the situation or run away.

2. Resistance Stage.- The body releases less cortisol, the heart rate and blood pressure begin to normalize, but it remains on high alert temporarily while the body begins to repair itself.

3. Exhaustion Stage.- It takes place when the person is under prolonged or chronic stress. There is a high risk of higher heart or blood pressure rates, and several other consequences harmful to our body, which can lead to stress-related illnesses.
