Solve using equivalent ratios.
guapka [62]

The width of the new card is 9 inches.

<u>SOLUTION: </u>

Given, we have to solve using equivalent ratios.  Wayne has a recipe on a 3-inch-by-5-inch index card that he wants to enlarge to 15 inches long.

We have to find width of the enlargement

Now, dimensions of card is \bold{\frac{(3 \text { inch })}{(5 \text { inch })}}

Let the new width of card be n inches .

So, New dimensions of card is \bold{\frac{(n \text { inch })}{(15 \text { inch })}}

Then, equivalent ratio is \bold{\frac{3}{5}=\frac{n}{15}}

\bold{\frac{3}{5}=\frac{n}{15} \rightarrow n=\frac{3}{5} \times 15 \rightarrow n=3 \times 3 \rightarrow n=9}

Find the perimeter of the following shape, rounded to the nearest tenth:
Marta_Voda [28]

Answer:

P = 18.4 units

Step-by-step explanation:

Sides AB and CD are congruent and thus have the same length.

Sides AD and BC are congruent.

The length of side AB is found using the Pythagorean Theorem:

|AB| = √ [ 5² + 1² ] = √26

and

|BC| = √ [ 4² + 1² ] = √17

Then the perimeter is P = 2(√26) + 2(√17), or

                                           10.20    +  8.25, or, to the nearest tenth,

                                      P = 18.4 units
