Given:

A banner is made of a square and a semicircle.

Side lengths of the square = 22 inches

Diameter of semicircle is equal to the side length of square.

To find:

The total area of the banner.

Solution:

We know that, the area of a square is

Area=a^2

Where, a is the side length of the square.

Putting a=22, we get

A_1=(22)^2

A_1=484

So, the area of the square is 484 sq. inches.

Diameter of semicircle = Side length of square = 22 inches

Radius of semicircle = 11 inches.

The area of a semicircle is:

Area=\dfrac{1}{2}\pi r^2

Where, r is the radius of the semicircle.

Putting r=11 and \pi=3.14, we get

A_2=\dfrac{1}{2}(3.14)(11)^2

A_2=1.57(121)

A_2=189.97

So, the area of the semicircle is 189.97 sq. inches.

Now, the total area of the banner is

A=A_1+A_2

A=484+189.97

A=673.97

Therefore, the total area of the banner is 673.97 sq. inches.

Is the following function even, odd or neither? f(x)=x^3 +4x
erica [24]

Answer:

D, neither

Step-by-step explanation:

to determine whether a function is even, odd or neither, we need to know what it means

an even function is symmetric with respect to the y-axis

an odd function is symmetric with respect to the origin

to solve an equation to see if its even or odd, we would need to substitute <em>x</em> in the equation for <em>-x</em>.

in an even function when we substitute f(-x), it should be equal to to f(x)

in an odd function when we substitute f(-x), it should be equal to -f(x)

so lets test the function given to see if its even

f(x) = x³ + 4x

f(-x) = (-x)³ + 4(-x)

f(-x) = x³ - 4x

f(-x) = x³ - 4x ≠ f(x) = x³ + 4x

comparing this to the orignal function, we see that f(-x) = x³ - 4x is not even as we did not get the same output as the original function

now we should test to see if its odd. we have already seen what f(-x) is, now lets try -f(x) and compare it to f(-x) and f(x)

-f(x) = -(x³ + 4x) -->

-f(x) = -x³ - 4x ≠ f(-x) = x³ - 4x

f(-x) = x³ - 4x ≠ f(x) = x³ + 4x

comparing this to f(x) and f(-x), we see that it not odd as we did not get the same output

so the answer is D, neither even nor odd

The interior angles of a triangle have measures (2x - 5), (4– 1), and 30°
const2013 [10]

Answer: x=26

Step-by-step explanation:

1. Write the equation 2x-5+4x-1+30=180 because all triangle angles add up to 180°

2. Simplify the equation by combining like terms. Write the equation as 6x+24=180

3. Subtract 24 from both sides. Write the equation as 6x=156.

4. Divide 156/6 and get 26. That is your answer (x=26).
