)Consider the following pair of equations: y = −2x + 8 y = x − 1 Explain how you will solve the pair of equations by substitutio
Ira Lisetskai [31]

Hi there,

Take y from first equation and use it / substitute it into the second equation:

-2x + 8 = x - 1, so 3x = 9, therefore x = 3.

Then y = x - 1 = 3 - 1 => y = 2.

Solution is (3,2).

A quick check: 2 = -2*3 + 8, true, and 3 = 2 - 1, also true.

Green eyes.

The temperature in the afternoon was 10 degrees. By 8 pm, the temperature was -5
Ket [755]

Answer:

The temperature had dropped by 15 degrees (-15 if you don't want it positive.)

Step-by-step explanation:

Okay!

This is a subtraction problem.

If it started off at 10, and went down to -5, we can do |-5 - 10| (I am using the two bars because it said change.) And we get 15!

Twice a number increased by 2 is zero
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]
Alright, so 2x+2=0 (with x being the number) is what I'm getting from this. Subtract 2 from both sides to get 2x=-2, and then divide by 2 to get x=-1
