Answer:

x = -2

x = 2

x = ?/2

x = ?(2)

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>For each problem you want to isolate the variable.</u>

For x + 2 you want to move the 2 by subtracting it (since it is being added to the x) from each side. Assuming the other side of the equal sign is 0, the answer is -2.

Same thing for x - 2, isolate by adding the 2 (since it is being subtracted).

For 2x and x ÷ 2 it is a little different. If we assume the opposite side is 0, the answer will be 0 because 0 divided or multiplied by 2 will give you 0. But if the opposite side is a different number, the answer will be that number and then the respected equation for the problem (divide both sides by 2 in 2x because the x is being multiplied by the 2 and multiple both sides by 2 in the x ÷ 2 because the x is being divided by the 2).

melomori [17]

Answer:

             x_1=\dfrac{5-\sqrt{57}}{2}\ ,\quad x_2=\dfrac{5+\sqrt{57}}{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

x^2-5x-8=0\\\\a=1\,,\ b=-5\,,\ c=-8\\\\x=\dfrac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\\\\x=\dfrac{-(-5)\pm\sqrt{(-5)^2-4\cdot1\cdot(-8)}}{2\cdot1}=\dfrac{5\pm\sqrt{25+32}}{2}=\dfrac{5\pm\sqrt{57}}{2}

You and your sister are selling cookies to help raise money for your field trip. You start out with $24 and sells each bag of co
Karo-lina-s [1.5K]

In order for them to raise the same amount of money, they will need to sell 12 bags of cookies.

<h3>What is the equation?</h3>

A mathematical statement consisting of an equal symbol between two algebraic expressions with the same value is known as an equation.

If x is no of bags of cookies must they sell in order for them to raise the same amount of money;

For sister 1 ;

You start out with $24 and sell each bag of cookies, c, for $3.The amount of money the person raised;

y = $ 24 +  ($3 / bag)x

y=24+ 3x

For case 2;

y=  $ 0+  ($5 / bag)x

y=5x

If both raise the same amount of money(y) then;

24 + 3x = 5x

5x-3x=24

2x=24

x=12

Hence, the number of bags of cookies will be 12 must they sell in order for them to raise the same amount of money.
