I am thinking that you have to go through some bad things in life and face difficult circumstances, in order to then learn from them and come out better on the other side. You suffer, but if you push through it and grow stronger and better, good things will happen because of your circumstances, so in some way you become blessed. When you have lived through some tough times, you can actually see how could you have it - so you are blessed.
