irga5000 [103]
From 1915-1934 the United States military occupied the country of Haiti based on the foreign policy of Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. The Roosevelt Corollary was actually an addition to the already formed Monroe Doctrine. This Corollary stated that in case of any conflicts between the European countries and the Latin American countries, the United states would enforce the legitimate claims of the European countries rather than the European countries themselves getting involved. Roosevelt did not want the European powers take hold of any Latin American countries as this would bring the enemy directly to the doorsteps of America.
