Recently, some local high schools have decided to change to a later start time, 8:30 am, based on studies saying teenagers need

more sleep to be more effective in school. Would you want to come to school later if it meant having to stay later? Why or why not? Please write a 7 sentence response.

Answer:

I would, yes because more sleep is healthy, and you'd be more awake in the morning when school time comes around. The average kid needs at least 8 hours of sleep a night. This being said, if kids have to get up at, say 6AM to catch the bus in the morning, and they went to bed a little late they might not be rested enough. Another point is school starts incredibly early in the morning, and you are always tired for the first few periods. Having later school times would solve this, as you could wake up a little later, feel more well rested. Later school hours also gives kids the chance to wake up more by the time first period starts. Later school hours might even benefit teachers in some ways as well.

Yes I would definitely choose that even if I just stay at school later I don’t really care because if I get more sleep I will have more energy during the day and so I’ll be able to get my work done a lot easier even though it means that I have to stay at school a little later it’s definitely worth it
