He is trying to blend into the American People so he changed his name for people to pronounce it easier.
( I'm sorry I'm assuming) People are trapped in history is the person's good/bad memories and will always remind themselves of things they did in the past, and history is trapped in them is sort of like you're a part of the history and you can't change the fact that you're in it. Again I'm sorry if this is not correct.
