In sentences why can’t x^2+2x+12 cannot be factored

$x^2+2x+12$

This cannot be factored because you can'y take a number out.

This is factoring.  $6x^2+4x+10=2(3x^2+2x+5)$

This is not factoring. $x^2+5x+96=1(x^2+5x+96)$
