In response to the way taxes were being handled (one of the main weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation) and the debt crisis, Daniel Shay, a former malita officer, led a rebellion. This proved the need for a stronger central government, as the rebellion could not be put down, and a change to the way taxes were handled.
