To empathize with this person, you can try to imagine yourself in their shoes, trying to do some very hard work that you don't understand, feeling like a failure, not having any hope to get a good score, being bugged and annoyed by other kids who are faster and smarter, and not being able to contain your anger and frustration. You can use strategies like studying their face, imagining yourself in the situation, and empathizing with them or talking to them.
