The ancient city of Tenochtitlan lies beneath D. <span>Mexico City, Mexico. Tenochtitlan used to be an Aztec city-state on Lake Texcoco in Mexico. It was founded in 1935, and was considered to be the capital of the Aztec empire. It housed the largest, most powerful, and most complex society in Mesoamerica.</span>
