Delicious77 [7]

Answer:

1 hotdog cost $2.25

1 popcorn cost $3.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the price of hotdog be and that of popcorn be p

For the first hour;

15p + 14h = 84 •••• (i)

for the second hour;

18p + 16h = 99 •••••(ii)

so we want to solve these two equations simultaneously

In equation 1,

14h = 84-15p

h = (84-15p)/14

Simply insert this into equation ii

18p + 16(84-15p)/14 = 99

Multiply through by 14

252p + 1344 - 240p = 1386

1386-1344 = 252p-240p

12p = 42

p = 42/12

p = $3.5

to get cost of hotdogs;

h = (84-15p)/14

Substitute p = 3.5

h = (84-52.5)/14

h = 31.5/14

h = 2.25

Find the solutions of x and y.
sladkih [1.3K]

Answer:

x = 15, y = 4

Step-by-step explanation:

By Basic proportionality theorem, we have:

x/ 5 = 18/6

x = (18*5)/6

x = 90/6

x = 15

Again By Basic proportionality theorem, we have:

12/y = 18/6

y = (12*6)/18

y = 72/18

y = 4

Is there a way to quickly find a function if you have a handful of ordered pairs?
Scilla [17]
Yeah. You basically have to look at every x value and see if for every x value, is there ONLY one y-value. So in your example, it is a function because every x value has only one y value. Let’s say you had (1,3) and (1,5). That would not be a function because the x value of 1 has TWO y values (3 and 5), therefore it is not a function.

That’s how you can easily spot if something is a function by just looking at a handful of ordered pairs. I hope this makes sense.
