Answer:

Racism is different from the past because nowadays most people don't tolerate racism. Racism isn't as strong as it was in the past, before racist Americans used to commit hate crimes against people of color and got away with it. For example, in the brutal murder of Emmett Till, the killers who tortured and killed a 14 year old boy, were never brought to justice because of the racism going on at that time. This doesn't mean racism doesn't still exist, in the police force there have been many murders against people of color who should have treated fairly instead of being killed on the spot.

The American government and way of life are based on the ideals of freedom and ________.
mote1985 [20]

Best answer for filling in that blank:  EQUALITY

Freedom means that individuals have liberty to have their own beliefs, their own lives, without being controlled or dominated by the government or by others in the country who have different beliefs.

Equality means each individual is to have the same rights within the country, so that there is equal justice for all citizens.  Every person is to be treated the same way under the laws of the land.

Note that the French Revolution also took up these themes of liberty and equality, to which they added also "fraternity" (brotherhood) as a third ideal for the government and nation they wished to form.
