THIS IS ALOT OF POINTS FOR ANYONE WHO CAN DO THIS FOR ME!!!!!!!!For the chapter project, we're going to delve a little deeper in

to some aspects of the history of physical therapy. You will submit your project in the form of a written report. A report can be an essay or bulleted or numbered answers to the questions. The report should address the following: What is managed care, and how did it affect the practice of physical therapy? There are many Internet resources for answering these questions. Doing a web search for the terms "managed care" and "managed care and physical therapy" will get you to the resources with the information you need. Make sure to cite the URLs where you found the answers. How were the ideas of Sister Elizabeth Kenny so revolutionary to the treatment of not only polio survivors, but of anyone with disabilities? Read about her life and describe how her ideas changed the practice of physical therapy. Again, much has been written about her life and work. Remember to cite the URLs as sources of the information you gather. Although they did much of the same work, the roles of reconstruction aides and today's physical therapists were different; they were also regarded differently. What do you think were the main differences in their roles and how they were regarded by the rest of the medical establishment? The answers can be found within the lesson itself. The American Physical Therapy Association's vision is: "By 2020, physical therapy will be provided by physical therapists who are doctors of physical therapy, recognized by consumers and other health care professionals as the practitioners of choice to whom consumers have direct access for the diagnosis of, interventions for, and prevention of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities related to movement, function, and health." Which of these goals have already been achieved? Why do you think that? The answers can be found within the lesson itself.

Physical therapy, by 2020, will be provided by physical therapists who are doctors of physical therapy and who may be board-certified specialists. Consumers will have direct access to physical therapists in all environments for patient/client management, prevention, and wellness services. Physical therapists will be practitioners of choice in patients'/clients' health networks and will hold all privileges of autonomous practice. Physical therapists may be assisted by physical therapist assistants who are educated and licensed to provide physical therapist directed and supervised components of interventions.

Guided by integrity, life-long learning, and a commitment to comprehensive and accessible health programs for all people, physical therapists and physical therapist assistants will render evidence-based services throughout the continuum of care and improve quality of life for society. They will provide culturally sensitive care distinguished by trust, respect, and an appreciation for individual differences.

While fully availing themselves of new technologies, as well as basic and clinical research, physical therapists will continue to provide direct patient/client care. They will maintain active responsibility for the growth of the physical therapy profession and the health of the people it serves.
