What lines characterize Mrs. Peters’s reaction to the men early in the play, and what lines show her feelings changing later in
MAXImum [283]

At the beginning of the play "Trifles", Mrs. Peters presents herself in a very submissive way to men and argues that they always do what is right, because they must fulfill their duties, even if it causes abandonment and sadness for his wife, or anyone else. This is evidenced by the speech:

MRS. HALE: I'd hate to have men coming into my kitchen, snooping around and criticizing. [...]

MRS PETERS: Of course it's no more than their duty. (51-52)

MRS. HALE: (resentfully) I don't know as there's anything so strange, our takin' up our time with little things while we're waiting for them to get the evidence. [...] I don't see as it's anything to laugh about.

MRS. PETERS: (apologetically) Of course they've got awful important things on their minds. (78-79)

At the end of the play, Ms. Peters develops an empathy for Mrs. Wright's situation, because she went through similar situations and understands how Mrs. Wright feels about loneliness and abandonment. At that moment, her opinion of men begins to change and she feels that they are irresponsible with the feeling of their women, adopting petty and sexist attitudes.

Answer:

1. A. a booklet on how to put together a bookcase

2. A. compare-contrast

3. B & D

4. C. cause-effect

5. B. signal words

Explanation:

1. For a sequence structure, you would show something in the order it would need to be done. This would generally be instruction manuals.

2. When looking for differences between something you look at the things that are similar and different.

3. Compare-Contrast looks at similarities and differences. You look at these when using example-effect and point-counterpoint

4. When reporting on the REASONS of World War II happening, you would write a cause of the war and how it effected Europe.

5. Cause-effect, sequence, and compare-contrast are all types of structures. This leaves signal words as the only thing that could show what structure a text has.

Read this excerpt from “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allan Poe.
Anestetic [448]

A. Readers gain insight into the narrator's belief that he is possessed by a demon.

This is the best option because the passage describes how he believes he has been possessed by a demon. From this passage, we don't actually know what happens once he is possessed. Option B says that it gives a reason for the narrator's behavior, but we don't know what that behavior is to make this a correct choice. Option C is wrong because first person invites us in to the narrator's mind. It doesn't not keep us at a distance. Option D is also not correct because we don't know anything about his treatment of a cat from this passage.
