<span>Charles I came to the throne in 1625 after the death of his father, James I. Like his father, he believed in the Divine Right of Kings. Although only parliament could pass laws and grant money for war, because they refused to do as he wished, Charles chose to rule without them.</span>
There was a series of laws and amendments passed to give them their rights, and example would be:
The right to vote
The destruction of man being enslaved do to color of skin
Etc.
But of course this stuff kept going until the late 1800`s, but finally died down
It was to promote Cold War, but then it was denied of democracy
