In 1800, during the Presidential election, the Federalist party presented the incumbent, John Adams as their presidential candidate, while the Democratic-Republican presented Thomas Jefferson.

However, following the election, Thomas Jefferson ticket won 73 electoral votes as against the John Adams votes of 65.

But at this time, Maryland electors has 10 votes in which was shared equally between the two tickets; Jefferson 5 and John Adams 5.

Hence, had Federalists controlled all Maryland's electors, John Adams would have won the election with 70 votes, while Jefferson would have come second with 68 votes.
