Suppose you do this test on a hypothetical Staphylococcus species with the antibiotics penicillin (P-10) and levoflaxacin (L-5).

You record identical zone diameters of 25 mm for the levoflaxacin and penicillin disks. Which antibiotic would be more effective against this organism? What does this tell you about comparing zone diameters to each other and the importance of the zone diameter interpretive chart?

Answer:

Levoflaxacin

Explanation:

Levoflaxacin is the antibiotic which is more effective than penicillin against Staphylococcus species because Staphylococcus species are more resistance to penicillin while not resistance against levoflaxacin antibiotic, so the Levoflaxacin is more effective against Staphylococcus species of bacteria. Levoflaxacin kills about 99.9% of Staphylococcus species so we can say that it is more effective than penicillin.

Answer:

macroevolution

Explanation:

Macroevolution is said to be the evolutionary changes that occur on a larger scale beyond a single species as a result of evolutionary forces such as mutation, gene flow, genetic drift. Macroevolution, unlike microevolution, usually results into the emergence of two new species with pronounced changes. The event as illustrated in the question is an example of macroevolution.

Answer:

If the oil spilled in the gulf would have been processed oil, it would be worse than a normal oil spill as these oils have a higher shelf life.

Explanation:

Oil spills happen when a large quantity of oil gets mixed with large water bodies like sea and oceans. The oil being denser than water floats on the surface and does not mix with the water. It forms a coating on top of the water.

The difference between processed oil and normal oil is that they are heated at very high temperatures and this results in oxidation which creates free radicals, which are not good for the body and its cells. Also they have a very long shelf life due to which they will remain on water for a long time.

When oil spills happen, the wind cause the spill to spread over the water surface, thereby engulfing a large amount of area. The major disadvantages of the spill are:-

 • The oil gets stuck in the feathers of the birds who come by to dip themselves,
 • Animals like whale, dolphins have blow holes for releasing water. the oil covers these holes and makes it difficult for them to breathe.
 • The fur of animals like seal and otter gets mixed with the oil and can prove harmful to them as it gets them exposed to cold.
 • The overall BOD of the water body decreases, and organisms which use sun rays coming inside the ocean suffer as these get blocked.
 • Since processed oil has longer shelf life, a large quantity of animals will suffer and die.

Which component is the last to join the initiation complex during the initiation of translation?
Vika [28.1K]

Answer:

The correct answer is the third option- the large ribosomal unit.

Explanation:

The translation is the second process of the protein synthesis in which transcribed mRNA molecule and transfer RNA or tRNA and ribosomes assemble together and complete synthesis of peptide chain or protein.

The assembly of initiator tRNA to ribosome subunits at the start codon of the mRNA is the initiation complex of the translation. The initiator tRNA is basically a met-tRNA molecule.

The initiator tRNA is bound to small subunit (30S) at 5' cap and scan for the start codon of mRNA.

Start codon bind to initiator RNA and in the end larger ribosomal unit assemble to this complex to complete the initiation complex of translation.

Thus, the correct answer is option - the large ribosomal subunit
