Explanation:

Can you answer my question please?

Read the passage from a 1950 speech by Senator Margaret Chase Smith.

I think that it is high time that we remembered that the Constitution . . . speaks not only of the freedom of speech but also of trial by jury instead of trial by accusation. Whether it be a criminal prosecution in court or a character prosecution in the Senate, there is little practical distinction when the life of a person has been ruined.

Based on this excerpt, what can you tell about Smith’s opinion of Senator Joseph McCarthy and his actions?

A. She did not support McCarthy’s actions and thought they were against the Constitution.

B. She supported McCarthy’s actions and thought they were appropriate during the Red Scare.

C. She supported McCarthy’s actions but thought the courts should rule on whether they were constitutional.

D. She did not support McCarthy’s actions overall but thought some were needed to protect the American people.

The Black Death was a devastating global epidemic of bubonic plague that struck Europe and Asia in the mid-1300s. The plague arrived in Europe in October 1347, when 12 ships from the Black Sea docked at the Sicilian port of Messina. People gathered on the docks were met with a horrifying surprise: Most sailors aboard the ships were dead, and those still alive were gravely ill and covered in black boils that oozed blood and pus. Sicilian authorities hastily ordered the fleet of “death ships” out of the harbor, but it was too late: Over the next five years, the Black Death would kill more than 20 million people in Europe—almost one-third of the continent’s population.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Which of the following was the main concern of the Know-Nothing Party?
irina [24]
The correct answer is A.

The know nothing party of the late 19th century was a political faction that consisted of nativists. Nativists are individuals who think that the wants and needs of native citizens should take priority over those of immigrants. This anti-immigrant stance is rooted in fear that immigrants would take jobs or try to change American culture. This group used violence to scare immigrants. When confronted about their actions, they would say they “know nothing .”
