The main reasons for the colonization of Africa by the Europeans and by Japan of Asia were to get lot of natural resources and raw materials, while also opening up new markets for their products. Both modernized their armies, made them strong, well trained, and large, so that they can easily conquer the desired territories. Another similarity was that both were very cruel toward the native population, killing, torturing, forcing them to work etc.
A lot of people were depressed because a lot of young boys died and there were a lot of parents who lost their boy(s). Plus, there were a lot of girls who didn't have a spouse so that kind of or alomst threw off the balance of humanity.
