The Church of England was created by a king, Henry VIII, who was throwing a fit over the Church not granting him a divorce. Henry VIII wanted a divorce so he could remarry and get a son. The Pope would not allow it so Henry left the Church and created his own church--the Church of England--where he was the supreme head.
