Ling wants to determine the average distance she travels each day in her car. She records the odometer reading, which measures t
erica [24]

Answer:

Mean = 10724.29\ mi

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

n = 7 --- days

See attachment for odometer readings

Required

The mean of the distance

Mean is calculated as:

Mean = \frac{\sum x}{n}

So, we have:

Mean = \frac{10150 + 10211 + 10424 + 10769 + 10884 + 11155 + 11477}{7}

Mean = \frac{75070}{7}

Mean = 10724.2857143

Approximate

Mean = 10724.29\ mi

Variance and standard deviation
kirza4 [7]

Answer: 8.3

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the variance, you want to find the mean of the data.

\frac{3+3+8+1+9+6}{6} =5

Now that we have the mean, we find the difference between each data point and the mean.

3-5=-2

3-5=-2

8-5=3

1-5=-4

9-5=4

6-5=1

With the difference, you square each and find the average.

(-2)²=4

(-2)²=4

3²=9

(-4)²=16

4²=16

1²=1

\frac{4+4+9+16+16+1}{6} =\frac{25}{3}

The variance is 8.3.

Hi can some please help?
Oduvanchick [21]
So I'm assuming that you're taking Calculus.
The first thing you want to do is take the integral of f(x)...
Use the power rule to get:
4X^2-13X+3.
Now solve for X when f(x)=0. This is because when the slope is 0, it is either a minimum or a maximum(I'm assuming you know this)
Now you get X=0.25 and X=3. Since we are working in the interval of (1,4), we can ignore 0.25
Thus our potential X values for max and min are X=1,X=4,X=3(You don't want to forget the ends of the bounds!)
Plugging these value in for f(x), we get
f(1)=2.833
f(3)=-8.5
f(4)=1.667
Thus X=1 is the max and X=3 is the min.
So max:(1,2.833)
min:(3,-8.5)

Hope this helps!

Find the value of x in the equation x⁄ 4 + x⁄14 + x⁄17 = 71
Morgarella [4.7K]

Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

33769/181

Discussion:

Each term contains "x" so factoring it out gives

x( 1/4 + 1/14 + 1/17)  = 71       (*)

Use common factor (17*14*4  = 952) as the denominator to combine terms:

1/4 =  (17*14)/ 952  = 238/952

1/14 = (17*4)/952 = 68/952

1/17 = (14*4)/952  = 56/952

so 1/4 + 1/14 + 1/17 =    (238 + 68 + 56)/ 952 =  362/952 = 181/476

Substituting in (*) gives

x ( 181/476)  = 71                       => multiply both sides by 476/181

x = (71 * 476)/181                       => 71* 476 =33769

x = 33769/181

Thank you,

MrB
