What is 1 and 1/6 minus 7/12 ?
Damm [24]
1 \frac{1}{6} - \frac{7}{12} \\
 \\ 1 \frac{1}{6}= \frac{1x6+1}{6}= \frac{7}{6} \\
 \\ \frac{7x2}{6x2}= \frac{14}{12} \\
 \\ \frac{7x1}{12x1}= \frac{7}{12} \\
 \\ \frac{14}{12} - \frac{7}{12}= \frac{7}{12} \\
 \\ Solution: \frac{7}{12}

How do I determine the radius of x^2+y^2=25 ?
dem82 [27]
Circles!!!

The general formula is:
x^2 + y^2 = r^2
where x and y form the circle while r is the radius.

You already have the problem set up in its general form and you don't want the radius squared... so square root everything.

If you do that then you'll get:
x + y = 5
where 5 is the radius and NOT the radius squared. If you have questions then leave a comment. Good luck!

Five pennies, 3 dimes, and 4 quarters are placed in a bag. What is the probability of selecting a penny and then a dime, given t
VashaNatasha [74]
There are 12 coins in the bag. For the first case, the probability that a penny is selected from the bag is 5/12 because there are 5 pennies in the bag. Also, the next one is 3/11. Multiplying the probabilities,
                           (5/12)(3/11) = 8/121
