Japan and Germany was basically treated the same because of the start of the cold war. If americas capitalism treated the people bad, then they might lean towards communism and so America began a policy of reconstruction of the both countries but more of the effort was put in Germany. The cold war saved the two countries from a harsh occupation, Eastern germany was raped to the ground by the soviets as revenge. so many were glad to be occupied by the americans
