If americas capitalism treated the people bad, then they might lean towards communism and so America began a policy of reconstruction of the both countries but more of the effort was put in Germany. The cold war saved the two countries from a harsh occupation, Eastern germany was raped to the ground by the soviets as revenge. so many were glad to be occupied by the americans
