What factors led to the partition of india? what kinds of states emerged? (p.867)?
Elenna [48]

The main factors that led to the partition of India where the religion and the religious movements. The Indian subcontinent was not homogeneous when it came to religion, and also there were lot of tensions between the religious groups. Multiple Muslim organizations were also pushing for independent countries, and were making pressure on the international community. The religious groups were mostly concentrated in certain part of the Indian subcontinent, so making borders between them was relatively easy. This resulted in the formation of three separate countries, India as Hindu country, and Pakistan and Bangladesh as Muslim countries. That was not the end of the story, as there was a big dissatisfaction among the people, so there were lot of conflicts and violence after the partition, with millions of people being killed, injured, or displaced.
