A rectangular beam is cut from a cylindrical log of radius 25 cm. A cross-section of the log is shown below. The strength, S, of
Delicious77 [7]
We are given the statement that the strength, S, of a beam of width w andheight h is proportional to wh2. hence using k as the proportionality constant, the equation is  S = k wh2. the exact width and height can be determined by applying optimization to the problem. optimization is taking the first derivative of an equation and equating then to zero

What is the slope and y-intercept of the equation represented by the following graph?
Solnce55 [7]
Referring the chart I attached, the slope is the ratio of rise to run

So we need to pick two points lying on the line to calculate the slope.

They would be (4,0) and (0,2)

slope= \frac{rise}{run} = \frac{\Delta y}{\Delta x}=
\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1} = \frac{2-0}{0-4} = -\frac{2}{4} = -\frac{1}{2}

That is for the slope

The y-intercept is where the line touches\crosses\intersects the y-axis...

It is clear from the figure that the line crosses the y-axis at (0,2)
so the<span> y-intercept is y=2

</span>

I hope that helps!
