Some carbohydrates are classified as reducing sugars due to their ability to reduce other reagents. What features of a carbohydr
julia-pushkina [17]
  • An aldehyde exists in chain form.
  • A ring-shaped hemiacetal exists.

Hemiacetal:

  • A reducing sugar is one that reduce other compound and oxidized itself. A sugar can be called as reducing sugar if it has an aldehyde group in the open chain form or hemiacetal group in ring form.
  • The hemiacetal consists of a hydrogen bonded to a "R-group," an alcohol, an ether, and a carbon. When an aldehyde and an alcohol interact, the hemiacetal is created.
  • The chemistry of carbohydrates revolves around the interactions between hemiacetals and hemiketals. Carbohydrates are made up of long chains of the sugar units known as monosaccharides, much like proteins are long chains of amino acids and DNA and RNA are long chains of nucleotides.

The calcaneal tendon (Achilles tendon) is the largest, strongest tendon in the body.
vovikov84 [41]

Answer: True

Explanation: The Achilles tendon is the largest and the strongest tendon in the body. When the calf muscles flex, the Achilles tendon pulls on the heel. This allows us to stand on our toes when walking, running, or jumping.

aliina [53]

Answer: Predators, increase

Explanation:

Because the fish are now able to swim in deep water, their Predators in shallower water will have less food. Likewise, competition for food among deep-water fish that eat the same types of food will increase.

Predation is the biological term used to describe the interaction between organisms whereby one  organism which is a Predator kills and devour another organism which is its prey.

In shallow waters, Fishes are more susceptible to predators like man, eagle etc who catch and kill them and  because of that many of these fishes have acquired anti--predator adaptations to prevent being caught and killed and so are now able to swim in deep waters leading to the predators having less food. The fishes who can now swim deep into waters  will increase the already populated deepwater and will cause an increase in competition for the fishes that eat same type of food with the new fishes

Describe the structure and function of the cellular membrane, including the role of proteins, lipids and sugars in the membrane.
AnnyKZ [126]

The cell membrane (plasma membrane) is a thin semi-permeable membrane that surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell. Its function is to protect the integrity of the interior of the cell by allowing certain substances into the cell, while keeping other substances out. It also serves as a base of attachment for the cytoskeleton in some organisms and the cell wall in others. Thus the cell membrane also serves to help support the cell and help maintain its shape.

Another function of the membrane is to regulate cell growth through the balance of endocytosis and exocytosis. In endocytosis, lipids and proteins are removed from the cell membrane as substances are internalized. In exocytosis, vesicles containing lipids and proteins fuse with the cell membrane increasing cell size. Animal cell, plant cell, prokaryotic cell, and fungal cell have plasma membranes. Internal organelles are also encased by membranes.

he cell membrane is primarily composed of a mix of proteins  and lipids. Depending on the membrane’s location and role in the body, lipids can make up anywhere from 20 to 80 percent of the membrane, with the remainder being proteins. While lipids help to give membranes their flexibility, proteins monitor and maintain the cell's chemical climate and assist in the transfer of molecules across the membrane.

The cell membrane contains two types of associated proteins. Peripheral membrane protein  are exterior to and connected to the membrane by interactions with other proteins. Integral membrane protein  are inserted into the membrane and most pass through the membrane. Portions of these trans membrane proteins are exposed on both sides of the membrane. Cell membrane proteins have a number of different functions.

Structural proteins help to give the cell support and shape.

Cell membrane receptor proteins help cells communicate with their external environment through the use of hormones , neurotransmitters, and other signaling molecules.

Transport proteins, such as globular proteins, transport molecules across cell membranes through facilitated diffusion.

Glycoproteins have a carbohydrate chain attached to them. They are embedded in the cell membrane and help in cell to cell communications and molecule transport across the membrane.
