The correct question is
Melissa is helping her dad build a walkway in their backyard. The walkway will be 54 feet long and 1.5 feet wide. The local hardware store sells tiles which are 1.5 by 1.5 feet and come in boxes of 12 How many boxes of tiles do they need?

we know that
area of a walkway=long*wide-----> 54*1.5-----> 81 ft²

area of one tlie=1.5*1.5-----> 2.25 ft²

find the numbers of tiles required
by proportion
1/2.25=x/81
x=81/2.25------> x=36 tiles

find the numbers of boxes required
by proportion
1/12=x/36
x=36/12------> x=3 boxes

the answer is
3 boxes
