Rubén Darío (1867–1916) was born in Nicaragua as Félix Rubén García Sarmiento.Today he is considered as one of the greatest poets of Latin America. As a leader of the modernista movement, he emphasized perfection of artistic form and the importance of beauty. «El nacimiento de la col»1 first appeared in 1893 in LaTribuna, an Argentine newspaper. In this carefully crafted short tale, Rubén Darío takes the reader to the biblical Garden of Eden on the fifth day of Creation, after God has brought forth the plants and the animals.
