The special commissioner Albert Pike was the one to sign the treaties with the members of the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes, it provided the confederates states with allies in Indian Territory. some members even fought for the confederacy. It was ironic that most of the tribes that had been expelled from the southern states chose to ally with the southern states. By signing the treaties the tribes severed their relationship with the Federal government. <em>The five tribes located in the south sided the confederacy because the south promised to protect to prevent further removal. </em>
