What made the spread of the bubonic plague especially hard to stop
horrorfan [7]
The fact that medicine and the understanding of health was not developed enough for them to realize how the human body worked and so while they felt they were helping they actually were just making things worse, such as the bleeding out of people which was done because it was believed that if you were coughing up blood that must mean you had too much blood in your body so they cut people in order to drain blood and "balance" the fluids. Also many people made long pilgrimages of mobs everywhere lashing and whipping themselves because they believed that the plague was punishment from God and that by harming themselves was there way of trying to repent. However all this did was increase the concentration of people with plague in areas and that mob traveled all over allowing spread to be much easier. There was also the fact that fleas were extremely common and people only took baths like twice a year and that was considered being clean. So people had ticks and fleas all over their body so they did not suspect that being the cause.
That's not everything but it is a little bit that can hopefully help.

wariber [46]

Hello. This question is incomplete. The full question is:

Below is a section from a previous draft of Donovan's argumentative essay. What type of appeal is Donovan making in the underlined sentences? Georgia O'Keeffe became one of the most famous painters of all time by not doing what "the men" of her time expected of her. O'Keeffe had the courage to be creative in the face of constant criticism. If O'Keeffe sat down to take an IQ test today, she might very well draw her answers and end up with a poor score. But she would not care what the results of the test were! Answer choices for the above question A. This is an emotional appeal. B. This is repetition. C. This is an ethical appeal. D. This is a counter argument.

Answer:

D. This is a counter argument.

Explanation:

As we can see in the text shown above, the underlined phrase stands as an objection, a refutation to the argument previously said, which states that if O'Keeffe made a current IQ text, it would have a low score. This type of positioning is called a counter argument.

The counter-argument aims to counter a premise and not hinder its meaning. When the author of the text states that O'Keeffe would not do well in an IQ test, he opposes arguments showing that this would not tarnish the genius she possessed.
