An estimated 50,000 slaves escaped as a direct impact of: The Underground Railroad.

The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes and safe houses established in the United States during the early to mid-1800s, which offered shelter and aid to escaped slaves from the South. Thus,  African-American slaves escaped into free states, Canada and Nova Scotia with the aid of abolitionists and allies who sympathized to their cause.
