Pros

Excellent exercise.
Can help improve not only fitness, but coordination, movement ability, and spatial awareness.
Good social environment. Although martial arts aren’t team sports, you interact frequently/regularly with other participants who share those interests.
Can help eliminate nervous energy.
Can, in some cases, help with people who have physical or psychological issues. (Look, for example, at programs designed for children with behavioral issues. Or programs designed for people with physical issues. My son helped develop a program for kids with ADHD.)
Can enhance self-confidence and help (especially with kids) with discipline.
Can help with self-defense. (Note: I don’t recommend taking a martial art in place of a self-defense course if the goal is strictly to learn self-defense. However, it can supplement those courses, or provide self-defense knowledge as an added benefit to the others listed here. It also depends on which martial art you learn. BJJ or Muay Thai can be very helpful. Some others—or those where people only practice forms (particularly musical forms!)—not so much.)
Gives you a new skill.
Can be an enjoyable hobby.
For people who like competing, there are tournaments for many martial arts. On the other hand, you can learn martial arts without competing—I know people who are great in things like BJJ and even MMA—who aren’t interested in competing. Martial arts are flexible that way.
Cons

Learning martial arts takes an investment in money. That investment might be fairly small (county-sponsored recreational programs, for example) or large (private gyms with top-ranked instructors). It’s not unusual to spend $150 a month or more on martial arts programs.
Learning martial arts takes an investment in time. Of course, it depends on how much you want to train. But if you’re moderately interested, figure on 90 minutes 3 times a week.
Injuries: You’ll get injured. Maybe really minor things. Maybe more serious items—a torn ACL, a broken arm, etc. Serious injuries are rare, but they do happen.
Cost for equipment. This depends on the sport/art, of course. There’s typically a uniform. Maybe some padding. Maybe gloves. Maybe special footwear. That could run $150-$300. And some of that gets worn out or outgrown after a while.

What was the most common negative effect of imperialism on Asian nations?
soldier1979 [14.2K]
The most common negative effect of Imperialism on Asian nations is the lost of control and independence of the natives. When there was an expansion of the population, it resulted in famine and cash-crops displaced food crops and this led to the death of the natives due to new diseases such as smallpox. In addition, rebellion caused the death of thousands. Imperialism is when a mother country takes over a smaller nation or colony for political, social, and/or economic reasons.<span>

In at least two hundred words, write a summary of the poem “Sestina.” Include at least two images that support your summary.
ahrayia [7]

Answer:

Summary:

Explanation:

A grandmother and her granddaughter are inside making a snack and some tea. To kill some time while the water boils, they read the almanac and make jokes out of what they find. Even though the grandmother is laughing, it seems she is upset about something, because she's trying to hide her tears.

At this point, both the grandmother and the grandchild seem to disappear into their own private thoughts. The grandmother thinks how her sadness might be connected to the time of year, and the child is distracted by the condensation forming on the teakettle. While the grandmother tidies up—hanging the almanac back on its string, putting more wood on the stove—the child draws a picture of a house and a man "with buttons like tears" to show to her grandma.

The poem ends in a pretty imaginative way, with the almanac dropping imaginary moons from its pages into the flower bed of the kid's drawing, then saying "time to plant tears"; the grandmother singing to the stove; and the child drawing another scribble of a house with her crayons.

Directions: The following paragraph is an example of a student’s paragraph that does not meet all of the expectations of academi
ivolga24 [154]

Answer:

In my opinion, video games are bad for both kids and teenagers because the genre can affect mood, and the amount of time they have to play can affect grades. “86% of the parents said their teenagers did spend too much time playing video games” ... As kids continue to play video games, they can easily become addicted. Certain genres of video games, including violent games, can cause children and parents to argue and can contribute to worsening grades in school. Although, some video games fall into the educational genre and are good for young kids because they can learn new things.  Some adults limit the number of times children play video games, while others don't, giving kids the chance to play whenever for however long. I believe that it is good to limit the amount of screen time kids have to play video games. Most kids would choose to play games late at night, which can cause them to be tired and sleepy in school. This can also cause grades to slip.
