We're planning to enclose a rectangular field with fencing, and we know that for whatever reason we want the field to be 50 feet

square. We also know that the field's width should be 23 feet longer than the field's length. What are the field's dimensions?

Answer:

2 by 25 feet.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let L and W be the length and the widht of the field

we want W = L + 23 and W x L = 50

So

(L + 23) x L = 50

L^2 + 23L = 50\\L^2+23L-50 =0\\(L+25)(L-2)=0\\L=-25 \text{ or } L = 2

Since L must be positive then L =2 and W = 2 + 23 = 25.

An artist wants to reduce the size of a drawing using a scale factor of 3:13:1 . The original drawing has an area of 720 square
Wewaii [24]
When shrinking an image, the size of each side is shrunk by the scale factor.  However the area is not shrunk by the same factor.  Area is a squared measurement (when finding the area of a rectangle we take length x width; two measurements, so a squared answer), so the area will be shrunk by the scale factor squared; in this case the area is shrunk by 3² or 9.  This means the new area would be 720/9 or 80 square inches.

(05.07) A square pyramid is shown. What is the surface area?
tensa zangetsu [6.8K]
The area of a pyramid is the sum of area of the base and the area of slant triangles.
The area of the base is 1.5 × 1.5 = 2.25 cm²
The slant height of each triangle, s is 3 cm
The area of the triangles = 1/2 × 1.5 × 3 × 4
                                        = 9 cm²
Therefore, the area of the pyramid
 =9 +2.25
= 11.25 cm²

To the nearest hundredth what is the area of a circle with a radius of 4 units
Kruka [31]
The equation for finding the area of a circle of A=pi(r^2). Just plug in r=4 to find the area:

A=pi(4^2)
A=16pi
A=50.27 units squared
