I think it was important to them because originally they were to obey to the crown, and had to listen to them no matter what. They weren’t free, and couldn’t do anything for themselves. After getting their freedom, they wanted to make sure the decisions were made mainly by the people. They decided that power should rest in the citizens hands as well. Which is why they became a democracy, so the people had to right to make decisions for their livelihood after being under the command of an unfair ruler.

Using the information from as many sources as possible, write a short paragraph that generalizes what life was like for southern
Katen [24]

According to sources such as the government of the United States history page, the life in the Southern states during the Reconstruction period was complicated and had its ups and downs for the southerners. The main problem was the difficulty to design a different labor system that could substitute enslavement. African Americans were used to work in the fields of their owners, and after abolition, they had to start a new form of making a living on their own.

Why did Adam Smith believe it was better to pursue personal interests, rather than the general interest of a society?
DanielleElmas [232]
In his most famous work, Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith discusses how the economy benefits tremendously when individuals focusing on self interest rather than the general interest of society.

The idea of self-interest revolves around an individual making a decision based on what is best for them on an individual basis. Smith argues that this is the most beneficial method because individuals would focus on making as many goods as possible to sell. This would benefit society as a whole, as there would be enough resources for everyone

. Along with this, focusing on your own financial gain will inadvertently help everyone. In order to have a successful business, you must keep your prices competitive. These competitive prices allow the business owner to have success while also giving the best deal to the consumer.
